With the Olympics in full swing, we think it’s the perfect time to go for gold in your beauty routine. We love this look on model Eniko Mihalik – molten gold on her eyelids with just a touch of berry on the lips. Devised by the team at cult beauty blog Into The Gloss, it proves metallic eye make-up can look as sophisticated and sultry as the classic smokey eye.
Here the make-up artists chose a gold shade with a tinge of green and bronze, and applied the shadow from the inside corner of the eye out across the eyelid, blending it to just above the crease.
To add intensity, a brown – not black – eyeliner was smudged into the lashlines. This brings depth and dimension to the eyes, and draws attention to the eye itself rather than the shadow. You can use this technique with most coloured shadows to create a softer smokey look. Try contrasting the colour of your liner – say bronze shadow with navy eyeliner – using a deeper shade of the colour, for example silver shadow with grey liner.
Another easy way to ensure metallic make-up looks subtle and sophisticated, is to choose eyeshadows that sparkle with gold, silver or rainbow pigment. You’ll get the drama of the surface colour, but the under pigment will give it a lightness and make it shine, meaning your eyes won’t look flat and the colour won’t recede and make eyes look smaller.
Lashings of mascara, a touch of blush and pretty lips finish the look.
